Ms. Jo’s greatest enjoyment in life was her family trips to Galveston Beach. She looked forward to these wonderful times with her family year after year. She also enjoyed watching T.V., soap operas and all kinds of sports (Chicago Cubs and Astros). Ms. Jo seemed to be a magnet when it came to children. She loved children as much as they loved being around her. Her grandson, Kevin thought no one else could make scrambled eggs like his grandmother. Her dinner outings on Saturday evenings with Jimmy and Laurie were the highlight of her week. Ms. Jo worked in the grocery business for 50 years and also worked at Marvin Gardens. She was a longtime member of St. Catherine’s and moved to St. Mary of the Pines Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Henry Johnson; mother, Virginia Montabano Shumaker; father, Joe Shumaker; brothers, K.C., Veto and Tony Shumaker; sisters, Lena Zagone, Rose Giovengo, Anthnet Hadwin and Marie Hennard.
Ms. Jo is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Holland Porter and husband John of Haughton, LA; son, Jimmy Johnson and wife Laurie of Shreveport, LA; granddaughter, Christy Edmunds and husband Stanton; grandson, Kevin Johnson and great-grandson, Layton Edmunds.
