Louis Sherman Kelly, known to most simply as “Kelly,” passed away on January 19, 2026, at the age of 92, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born on December 22, 1933, also in Shreveport. Kelly was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Carla Bain Kelly, a loving father to Sheri Kelly Horne and Glen Kelly, and a very proud grandfather and great-grandfather.
He spent many years working for South Central Bell and AT&T before fulfilling a lifelong dream of starting his own phone business. He took great pride in his work, but nothing ever mattered more to him than his family. Kelly was blessed with extraordinary siblings and an extended family who filled his life with love, laughter, and companionship.
Kelly and his wife, Carla, shared a beautiful marriage that spanned seven decades. Together, they were a shining example of a life rooted in love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. They so enjoyed their time traveling, camping, trout fishing on occasion, and especially their memorable motor home trip to Alaska together.
Kelly adored his daughter, Sheri, who never failed to brighten his day. He cherished every moment spent with her and held those memories close to his heart. Sheri has many wonderful memories with Dad. The best memory being fishing every Saturday at 5 a.m. He is my rock and will forever live in my heart. I know you will always watch over me while I am here on earth until I am with you again in heaven. I love you, Dad, always and forever.
Kelly shared an especially close bond with his son and best friend, Glen. They were able to walk through all the various stages of life together. Their time was filled with countless days at the archery range, special moments enjoying sports and activities with the grandchildren, working on projects together, and many treasured adventures fly-fishing on the river, experiences that became highlights of Kelly’s later years. Dad, I love you with all my heart and will lean into the assured hope we have in Jesus until we’re together again for eternity.
Special friends were also an integral part of Kelly’s life. His weekly coffee time with Charlie, Harry, and Jamar was especially meaningful to him, and visits from friends A. L. Williams and Arthur Swayze were always highlights that he deeply enjoyed.
He had a servant’s heart and truly loved helping others, especially when it involved family. He was always willing to lend a hand, offer guidance, or simply be there when someone needed him.
Kelly is now home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, awaiting to see his family again. His legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he gave, and the memories we will cherish forever.
Kelly is survived by his loving wife, Carla Bain Kelly; his daughter, Sheri Kelly Horne; his son, Glen Kelly and wife, Kathleen; brother, John Kelley and wife Charlotte; sister, Norma Franks and husband Bill; his grandchildren, Lauren Crawford and husband Patrick, Max Kelly and wife Holly, Jared Horne, and Zach Kelly and wife Christi; his great-grandchildren, Logan Crawford, Garrett Crawford, Wes Kelly, and Camille Kelly; extended family; and many dear friends who will miss him deeply and remember him always.
He was preceded in death by parents Bose and Lizzie Kelley; brothers, Jack, Edgar, B.F., William (Bob) Kelley, and Billy Kelly; sisters, Ruby Beadle, Martiel Campbell and Maxine Kelley.
A visitation will be held on January 22, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, located at 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71108. A graveside service will follow at 10:00 am at the same location.
Honoring Kelly as pallbearers will be Max Kelly, Jared Horne, Zach Kelly, Patrick Crawford, Scott Franks, Robbie Andrew, and honorary pallbearer Steve Kirkland.
The family would very much like to thank the staff from The Oaks of Louisiana and LifePath Hospice. What an amazing blessing and comfort they provided the entire Kelly family. Also, a special thanks to Robert Beadle (nephew and funeral celebrant), who has been a blessing to the entire Kelly family in so many ways over the years.
