Helen Marie Farr Bolinger, known by those she loved as “Mamaw”, passed away on Friday, November 8th, 2019 at the age of 89. She was a resident of Rockwall, TX having moved there from Shreveport, LA in 2013.
Marie was born on July 8, 1930 in Mansfield, LA and was the daughter of Charlie and Mary Effie (DeSoto) Farr. Marie was one of nine siblings: Pauline Howard, Hazel Kelly, LaNell Chamberlin, Dorothy Archambeau, George Farr, Clyde Farr, Malcolm Farr and Charles Farr, all of whom preceded her in death.
She married Danny Bolinger on December 22, 1950 in Caddo Parish, LA and was married for 24 years. Marie held a variety of jobs over her career but ultimately retired from Western Electric/Lucent Technologies in Shreveport, LA. Marie loved music, dancing, bingo, word search puzzles and her favorite things to do were attend church and bible study.
Marie is survived by her three daughters: Diane Mason and husband David, Donna Roland and husband Mark and Darlene Bolinger Peninger. Additionally, Marie was blessed with five grandchildren: Shyan Houk and husband Charles, Kelly Burgess, Paul Roland and wife Heather, Virginia Williams and husband Brooks, and Danielle Long and husband Zack. A bigger blessing for Marie were her fourteen great-grandchildren: Joshua Burgess, Halee Poplin, Stephanie Adams, Thomas Houk, Ryan Houk, Brooklyn Williams, Jackson Houk, Abygail Allen, Lawson Williams, Gracen Williams, Sydney Clair Roland, Owen Williams, Ethan Williams and Savannah Mae Roland.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 13th at 9:30 am followed by a memorial service at 10:30 am at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, located at: 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA.
Pallbearers are Mark Roland, Paul Roland, Michael Roland, Brooks Williams, Glenn Parker and James Ridout. Leading the pallbearers will be Lawson Williams. Officiating will be Pastor Bob Gilliam, to whom the family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for providing spiritual direction to Marie during her time at Broadmoor Medical Lodge. Music will be provided by Steve Rhome, who worked to fulfill Marie’s love for music during her time at Broadmoor. The family extends sincerest thanks to all the local family members of Marie, along with the staff at Broadmoor Medical Lodge, for the love and care shown to Marie over the last several years.
The family has requested that donations, in memory of Marie Bolinger, be made to Rockwall Meals on Wheels, in lieu of flowers or other gratitude’s. The local Meals on Wheels program and staff were very supportive of Marie by providing meals, check-ins and transportation as needed when Marie first moved to Texas.
