Maxine R. Owens

23 July, 19253 May, 2021

Maxine Roberts Owens passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021 in Monroe, Louisiana at the age of 95. She was born July 23, 1925 in Colfax, Louisiana to Earnest “Pee Wee” and Nola Shepherd Roberts.

She retired from the Louisiana Department of Social Services. She completed training for Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview TX. After her retirement, she faithfully volunteered until 85 years of age as Chaplin at LSU Medical Center Shreveport and at the VA Nursing Home in Shreveport.

Maxine was very active in her church. She loved to minister to those in need. She always had a meal cooked when you were expected and loved to make your favorite dishes. She made the best sour cream cakes! Maxine baked thousands for family, friends, and strangers. Her family was everything to her, right behind her faith and she lived to tell anyone and everyone about either. She was proud of her large family often saying, “It all started with me!” Maxine was a great listener and could make you feel better at times by never saying a word. She was RELENTLESS in her encouragement and UNFAILING in her support. She always had a smile on her face and a laugh ready. She brought much comfort to so many people.

Left to cherish her memory are her Husband, Clay Owens; Children, Vickie Johnson and husband Kenneth of Colfax, LA and Donna Bennett and husband Robert of Monroe, LA; Grandchildren, Denise Parker and husband Gary, Kim Bunting and husband Bryan, Sherri Sellers and Husband Ronnie, Terri Wright and husband Kyle, Kenny Johnson and wife Jo, Keith James and wife Miranda, Brian Hicks and wife Teresa, Chris Bennett and wife Wendi, Keith Bennett and LaDonna Mock; 17 Great Grandchildren; and 14 Great Great-Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Collins; children, Francis Bullitt, Terry P. Bullitt, Cindy Collins and Karen Collins Holeyfield; her parents; and her beloved Yorki, Misha.

A visitation for Maxine Roberts will be held Friday, May 7, 2021 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108. A celebration of life service will occur following the visitation at 12:30 PM. Interment will be in Centuries Memorial Park. Officiating the service will be Pastor David Logan. Serving as pallbearers are Brian Hicks, Keith James, Kenny Johnson, Bryan Bunting, Ronnie Sellers and Brandon Pennington. We cherish the memories of Maxine and her faithfulness to God and His local church, Broadmoor /Gateway Assembly of God. We served as her pastors for many years, and she faithfully contacted us and prayed for us through her remaining years after we retired and moved to New Orleans. Blessings on her family.

We’ve had so many adventures, countless amounts of snacks and candy (we both had a sweet tooth!) miles and miles of road trips and a lifetime of pajama parties. I could write a book! I owe it all to you!

Precious Precious Maxine, she was and will always be a dear friend and forever my Sister in Christ.. She stood on the Word of God and a beautiful example of a Godly Woman. Maxine blessed me with her love, sharing our Heavenly Father's love with me and everyone she came in contact with. She blessed us all with Christian Tracts and Books... She shared the Joy of the Lord.. Oh what a wonderful reunion we will have when we get together in Heaven ! I look so forward to seeing Maxine again. Look up our redemption draws near. I send love and prayers to her wonderful family.
