Mildred Elizabeth Cox, 89, of Shreveport, LA, left this earth peacefully on March 21. A beloved mom, grandmother, friend, nurse and mentor, Mildred will always be remembered for her dry sense of humor, quirky sayings: “Stop your lollygagging!”, Christmas socks, gifts of $2 bills and her enjoyment of black coffee. Mildred was born to Jess and Opal Buchanan on May 17th, 1935, in Campo Colorado. Older brother Charlie “Chuck” and sister Margaret Buchanan welcomed her home.

Grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins all resettled in the pelican state. In 1939, baby sister Esther Ruth “Ruthie” Buchanan joined the growing clan.
When Mildred was 5 years old, her beloved mother, Opal passed away unexpectedly. This left their father Jess alone to raise 4 young children. Jess eventually remarried and the family welcomed another baby daughter, Lona Ann to the Buchanan Family.
A wonderful nurse, Mildred devoted her career to caring for thousands at Physicians and Surgeons (P&S) and Schumpert Hospitals, along with some PRN work at a rehab. Mildred was also a friend and mentor to those that were also employed at the hospitals.
