Myma Alice Horn, 104 years old, born in Nebo, Louisiana, on August 26, 1917. On August 20, 2021 Myma was called home to heaven to join our Lord and to reunite with her husband, Alvin. She passed peacefully at her home. She was the daughter of John Roy Ray and Cora Paul Ray of Nebo, La.
Myma moved to Shreveport after graduating from High School to start a life that was not on the farm. She had several jobs prior to 1954 when she started working as a cashier for Southern Maid Donuts; she was the one that gave Elvis his donuts when he came to visit. In 1971, she, her husband, her daughter, Joyce and husband Elmer opened their own store on Mansfield Rd. where she made many friends.
She believed that family should stick together and when it came to having a large family, the one thing that can be said was that she was the glue that held everything together. Myma was a life-long member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Horn of 68 years, son-in-laws James Dean Artz and Benny Sirman, and granddaughters Elizabeth Artz and Debbie Langston. She is survived by three daughters: Billie Jean Artz, Joyce and husband Elmer Lewing, Bonnie Sirman; three sons: Alvin R. and wife Ginger, Curtis and wife Cynthia, Tommy and wife Sharon; twenty grandchildren, and thirty great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Although she will be greatly missed by all, we take comfort in knowing that she is with her Lord.
Funeral services for Myma Horn will be held at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday August 28 at 2 PM. Pastor John Lary of Calvary Baptist Church will officiate. Interment to follow in Centuries Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 5 PM until 7 PM on Friday the 27th.
