Paul dedicated nearly three decades of his professional life to the Caddo Parish School Board, serving as Director of Data Processing from 1967 until his retirement in 1995. A forward thinker and innovator, he introduced the first mainframe computers to the district, helping usher local education into the modern technological era. His leadership and vision left a lasting impact on the school system and the community it serves.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Paul was a master craftsman and passionate restorer of classic sports cars. His meticulous restoration of an Austin Healey 100 earned a prestigious gold award at an international Austin Healey convention in Colorado, a testament to his precision, patience, and dedication. His love of anything with wheels began early; family movies show him at just two years old racing down the sidewalk in Ruston in his kiddie car.
Paul’s interests were as varied as they were enthusiastic. He built model airplanes, flew radio-controlled planes, and enjoyed many rounds of golf with his favorite partner, the late Tom Scates. He followed LSU football faithfully, sharing that passion with his daughter Denise. He had a deep appreciation for good food, a trait likely inherited from his father, who was a naturally gifted cook.
Those who knew Paul remember him as loyal, resourceful, and capable of fixing virtually anything. He was the ultimate do-it-yourself man, and a steady problem solver who managed finances with skill yet gave generously of his time and resources. His personality was a distinctive blend of quiet reserve and a delightfully goofy sense of humor. He approached life with optimism, except perhaps when LSU was losing.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. William Haynie; the nurses and therapists of Ark-La-Tex Home Health; the nurses and aides of Gentiva Hospice; EMS; and his sitter Delores Leggett for their compassionate care and support. Also a friend and neighbor Elizabeth O’Bannon.
Paul’s legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the things he built and restored, and the love he shared with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
Paul is survived by his wife, Ann Carroll Dupont, and his daughter, Denise Dupont. He was predeceased by his parents, Nold Earl Dupont and Oma Braswell Dupont.
