Bessie Irene Reid

Reid, Bessie (Betty) Irene – 80, Stewiacke, N.S., passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Friday, September 19, 2008. Betty lived a long and happy life in her cherished community of Stewiacke. She always enjoyed the regular company of family, friends and neighbours. Everyone who came to visit her knew that they would be greeted with “How good it is to see you!” She was generous in extending compliments to others and, in turn, was always delighted when anyone told her how young looking she was after revealing her age. She was a wonderful wife and mother who adored the two men in her life – her beloved husband Walter who passed away in 1986, and her son Douglas who lives in Halifax with his wife Maureen and daughter Lily (age 5). She loved being a grandmother and took great pleasure in seeing Lily grow and develop. She was devoted to her church and her community. She was fond of remembering her service as a CGIT leader. In addition to her son and his family, Betty is survived by her sister Verna Weatherhead, her brother Gordon Kellough (Babe), nieces and nephews. She was the daughter of the late Creighton and Janet (Grant) Kellough. She was predeceased by her husband Walter and siblings Hazel Lively, Mabel Russell, Martha Blois and Henry Britton. Betty had a wonderful circle of caregivers and we owe a particular debt of gratitude to Dawn, Janet, Lillian and Queenie. Visitation will be held at Ettinger’s Funeral Home in Shubenacadie on Monday, September 22, 2008 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Andrews United Church in Stewiacke at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2008. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre Foundation or St. Andrew’s United Church, Stewiacke.
