

HALLIDAY, Doris Lillian -92, Shubenacadie East, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on February 27, 2012 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Worthing, Sussex, England she was a daughter of the late Charles and Lillian (Bainbridge) Lodge. The proud daughter of a publican, Doris was raised in Worthing, England. She won a scholarship and was educated at the Sion School. Doris and Arthur married in December 1942. She came to Canada as a War Bride on the Ile de France in 1946, making her home in Montreal for the next 35 years and raising two sons. As her boys grew up she was active in the Home and School Association, the Boy Scout Movement and the Cadet Movement. Relocating to Nova Scotia in 1981, she continued involvement with the Navy League of Canada, Nova Scotia Mainland Division, and National Council. She was named a Life Member of National Council in 1989. She participated in Legion Activities at Shubenacadie Branch 111, was an active member of St James Anglican Church & ACW and made her acting debut in their Dinner Theatre in her early 80’s. For many years her life revolved around her grandchildren and their friends, faithfully attending hockey, soccer and fastball games as well as school concerts. She opened her home and her heart to many, and was universally known as Nana Halliday, or in later years simply The Nana. Doris was an expert knitter, and made many amazing needle points. Most found their way home with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She used her fire engine red laptop every day that she had it, and followed her grand and great grand children’s adventures and activities through her face book account. Doris touched many lives and it’s through her strength of spirit and caring that she will live on in the hearts and homes of everyone she knew Doris is survived by sons Andrew (Beverley), MacKay Siding; Raymond, (Shubenacadie East); three grandsons Alexander (Patti), Brantford, ON; Richard (Annika), Hamilton, ON; Colin (Tatiana), Reading, England; great grandson Nathan and great granddaughter Reese, Brantford; sisters-in-law Mary Gibson, Ottawa; and Brenda Lodge, Worthing, England; several nieces and nephews in Canada, England and Europe. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur, brothers Ronald and Raymond Lodge. Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. Memorial service 11 am, Friday, March 9, 2012 in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, Rev. Lloyd Ripley officiating. Reception to follow in St. Jame’s Anglican Church Hall, Shubenacadie. Family flowers only, donations may be made to the St. James Anglican Church, Shubenacadie or a charity of your choice.
