

PACE, Eldon R. -85, Shubenacadie, passed away at home on December 23, 2010. Born in Glen Margaret, he was a son of the late Robert and Mary (Collind) Pace. Eldon was a veteran of WWII, Royal Canadian Navy (HMS Lauzon) serving in the South Atlantic. He attended and was amongst the first graduating class at Maritime Forest Ranger School in Fredericton. He was employed with Department of Natural Resources and became co-founder and eventually supervisor of the Provincial Wildlife Park. He retired from the Park after 40 years of service. He was the recipient of several international awards for raising Water Fowl, demonstrating his passion for the care and protection of animals. He was a life time member of Ducks Unlimited. Eldon was a long standing member of the Stewiacke Masonic Lodge, a member of the Elmsdale Garden Club. Owned and operated Shubendorf Kennel and a breeder of dogs (German Sheperds, Nova Scotia Duck Tollers and Golden Retrievers). Surviving are daughters Katherine Moir (Derrick) and Elizabeth Pace (David Ettinger); nephews Richard and Stephen; nieces Patricia and Eileen. He was predeceased by his wife Ruth, brothers Byron and Cyril. Visitation 6-9pm, Sunday, in Ettinger Funeral Home, exit 10, Shubenacadie. A service of Celebration of Eldon’s life will be held 2pm, Monday, December 27, in Gays River United Church, Lori Crocker DM officiating. Donations to Alzheimer Society or Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Eldon.
