

COURTNEY, Ralph Victor- 91, Shubenacadie, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 25, 2012, in the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building, QEII, Halifax. Born in Halifax, he was the only child of the late James and Eva (Corkum) Courtney. Ralph joined the Royal Canadian Navy shortly after the outbreak of the Second World War. As a sailor he served as an ordinance artificer in the North Atlantic. After the War, he served on many vessels and shore establishments on both coasts, primarily on the East Coast, out of Halifax. Ralph rose through the ranks to a commissioned officer, retiring as a lieutenant in 1969. After retirement he operated Courtney’s Appliance and Small Engine Repair in Shubenacadie. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lola (Reid), Shubenacadie, daughters, Nancy Langille(Wayne), Shubenacadie; Pat MacPhee(Gordon), MacKay Siding; Miriam Dindore (Michael), Houston, Texas; son Willie Courtney(Faye Dunlap), MacPhee’s Corner; grandchildren, Robert, Craig, Sean, Vicki, Jim, Crystal, Kristopher, Benjamin; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandson; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 6-8pm with a Legion Tribute service at 7pm, Tuesday in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, from where the funeral service will be held 2pm Wednesday, M. Dale Crawford DLM officiating. A reception will follow in the Funeral Home. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Milford.
