

DILLMAN, Thelma Frances, 84, Shubenacadie, passed away peacefully November 21, 2010, in Brentwood Ponds seniors care facility, Brentwood, surrounded by family, following a hard battle with cancer. Born in Cooks Brook, she was the daughter of the late Everett and Mary “Mamie” (Wilson) Mitchell. Mum was a school teacher in one room school houses in Lake Egmont, Brookvale, Chaswood and Cooks Brook, lifelong baker and cook, house keeper, later caring for children and most importantly though - Our Mother. Leaving teaching after the birth of her fourth child, she raised her family by selling her home baking with intermittent cook house employment. People drove for miles to buy her bread and pastries from local markets, and miners never missed a meal when they smelled her homemade bread and donuts. She also cared for children, first in her home and later in theirs, finally refocusing on just her own family and grand children at the age of seventy. She was a life time member of the Gays River United Church and avid puzzle enthusiast. She will be sadly missed by her daughters Diane Dillman, Enfield and Frances (Brent) Hull, Chaswood; sons Jamie (Scott), Shubenacadie; John, Quebec and Michael, Truro; granddaughters Melanie and Meghan; grandson Jay; sisters Ruth, Middle Musquodoboit, Georgie, Alton and Loraine, Missouri, USA; nieces Ruby, Lois, Muriel, Donna, Rose and Barb; nephews Gordon, Laurie, Dana and Tommy; very special ladies and gentlemen she considered her daughters and sons – Amelia, Robin, Jamie Lee and Scott. She was predeceased by son Myrlan, and a very special young man she also considered her son, Bradley; former son-in-law Artie; brothers Wilbur and Earl; nephew Freddie, niece Gloria; dear friends Ivy, Muriel and the reverend Calder Fraser. She now resides in the arms of an angel. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. No visitation by request. A memorial service will take place 2 pm Thursday at Ettinger Funeral Home. Lori Crooker DM officiating. Family flowers only.
