Glenn C. Harper, 92, of Sikeston, died January 17, 2013, at the Missouri State Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. Born November 18, 1920, in Sikeston, to the late Hulbert H. and Cora May Ford Harper, he served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII. He was a 1941 graduate of Sikeston High School, and in 1950 received his B.S. degree in education from Southeast Missouri State University. He received his masters degree in physical education and biology from New Mexico Highlands University. While a student there, he participated in advanced research and drug testing for tuberculosis patients. He taught and coached track and football in Mercedes, Tex., and Boron, Calif., and later taught and coached junior high track for Sikeston Public Schools, retiring after 18 years. Following retirement, he participated in many foot races including National Senior Olympics in St. Louis, placing third in the state 800 meter run, which qualified him for the Syracuse, NY race. He was the winner of the Road Runner Award in 2000, sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Road Runners. He was a member of the Missouri Retired Teachers Association and the First United Methodist Church in Sikeston.
Numerous nephews and nieces survive.
Visitation will be held from 10:00am until time of the funeral service at 12:00 noon Thursday, January 24, at the First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Geoff Posegate, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
