

Mary Lorena Spraggs, 79, of Matthews, died January 7, 2016, at the Close-To-Home Nursing Center in Matthews. Born November 14, 1936, in Beach Bluff, Tenn., to the late Robert M. and Sadie Margaret Taylor Johnson, she was employed over fifteen years as a cook for Sell’s Rest Home, and was a homemaker. She was of Baptist belief. On October 1, 1954, in Charleston, she married J.B. Spraggs, who preceded her in death on December 25, 2010.
Survivors include: four sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Sue Spraggs of Holts Summit, Donald and Laura Spraggs of Matthews, Brad and Kim Spraggs of Jefferson City and Scott and Kim Spraggs of Sikeston; one brother, Kenny Johnson of Matthews; and three sisters, Pat Frere’ of the state of California, Louise Young of Polacious, Texas and Barbara Landers of Matthews. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Ruth Cunningham Johnson, and three sisters, Glenda Brown, Lucille Vaughn and Teresa Kidd.
Visitation will be held from 5 – 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 11, with Pat Hogan, minister of the Shady Acres Church of Christ in Sikeston, officiating.
Interment will follow at the Matthews Cemetery.
