Merlin gave a confused college dropout a chance in radio at KSIM back in 1976. He and Lee Brooks hired me off the street and began my long and happy career in radio. I'll always be grateful for the opportunity that he gave me. His family was his pride and joy and what a beautiful legacy. You all are in my heart and prayers.
Thank you for everything, Mr. Hagy!

I worked with Merlin back in the 1968-69 time frame when I was hired by the legendary Dick Watkins as an announcer at KSIM. Merlin was a top-notch broadcaster and a huge part of "Radio Sikeston, 1400 KSIM." Many years later, I renewed my friendship with Merlin in his position as circulation manager at the Standard. He was an all-around good guy and one I was proud to call my friend.

My Popo. ❤️😭

My Popo taught me from birth that I was SPECIAL, not spoiled (although he was pretty good at spoiling me)
My Popo taught me how to swim by age two with a swift toss into the pool.
My Popo taught me how to ride waves on the beach by age 3.
My Popo never missed a soccer game from age 4 until age 29.
My Popo brought me lunch when I asked for it in every grade (and for my friends, too)
My Popo picked me up and took me to Rodchester’s and let me get TWO things (that was a big deal back then)
My Popo came to visit me in Springfield at least once a month and we had FUN.
My Popo was so proud when I graduated college and that made me even more proud of myself.
My Popo stayed all night long until Flynn was born and held Flynn on his shoulder just like he held me.
My Popo watched Flynn and played cards with Flynn and dressed up with Flynn and became Flynn’s Popo, too.
My Popo sent me flowers every holiday before anyone else could.
My Popo fought through cancer like a BADASS and almost beat it.
My Popo taught me how a woman should be treated in the way he treated Momo.
My Popo was one of a kind.
My Popo hand’s will ALWAYS be guiding me through life.
My Popo will live on in the hearts of so many that he touched.
My Popo was loved so much.

My dearest Big Brother even though we haven’t seen each often enough. My love for you was always with me. You took care of me after we lost Mom always looking out for me and making me laugh. Now my two brothers are together and with Mom and Dad. Guess it’s my turn to be last again. Be waiting and watching over me ok. I need it more now than ever! Enjoying all the sweet caring things people are saying about you and so proud to be your little sis. Love you. 💕🙏

PoPo the Sailor Man was strong to the finish! My family and I loved him like he was our PoPo. You know why...because he was loving, supportive, fun, kind, he hugged, he cared, he celebrated accomplishments, he was PoPo. He needed no praise or accolades it was just who he was! Oh man, He will be missed!
Merls Girls, Flynn, Buzz and Austin, you will be in my prayers constantly as you try to navigate life without him and hopefully, all the memories will fill some of the void his absence leaves.
Love you PoPo, see you soon!!
