May 11, 2026, marked the passing of Steven Charles Arndt - a beloved husband, father, and grandfather; and one of those rare people who made the complicated feel simple and the unfamiliar feel safe. He was the person who believed in you and all you were capable of - and stood guard to ensure that he was right.
Steve was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on November 12, 1950, to Jerome Harrison Arndt and Sheila Balph Arndt. Raised across Oklahoma, California, and Texas, he graduated from MacArthur High School at just 16 years old, a quiet signal of the sharp, curious mind that would shape his life's work. His education took him to the University of Dallas, where he met Teresa, the love of his life and future wife, and later to the University of Texas at Austin. Soon after, he moved to Sikeston, Missouri, to join Teresa’s family business.
Steve joined what became Schumacher Financial Services (SFS) at a pivotal moment, beginning a remarkable career that spanned five decades. Recognizing that newly passed federal retirement legislation would fundamentally reshape the landscape for employers and employees across the country, Steve saw clarity and opportunity where others saw complexity. He quickly earned his Certified Pension Consultant designation, followed by his ChFC, CLU, and other certifications, allowing him to lead in an impactful new direction.
With the unwavering support of more than forty family members and a team of loyal employees, Steve served as President and CEO of SFS. leading with the same steady principles from his first client to his five-hundredth: honesty, integrity, and personal service. He had a rare gift for translating the dense language of regulations and retirement planning into plain words that folks understood, earning the trust and credibility that defined his personal and professional relationships.
Away from the office, Steve was most often found on the golf course, where his love for the game matched the discipline and precision he brought to everything else. A lifelong member and multi-year club champion at Sikeston Country Club, he loved playing links-style courses across the United States and around the world.
Steve and Teresa celebrated 53 years of marriage and were blessed with three children: Charles (1975–2026), Stefanie, and Laura (1978–1988), two of whom were heartbreakingly lost far too soon. Steve's legacy lives on in his wife, Teresa; his brother, Jim; his daughter, Stefanie; and his seven grandchildren: Abigail (Abby), William, Amelia (Mia), Harrison, Alma (Alli), Henry, and Sheila (Anni), as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. The man affectionately known as "Pop" made an indelible mark and was revered by all who knew him.
Steve Arndt was not a complicated man. He believed in showing up, telling the truth, doing the work, and fiercely taking care of the people in front of him - whether that was a client planning for the future or a grandchild navigating growing up. A man of few, carefully chosen words, he made us laugh, held us accountable, and, most of all, made us feel profoundly loved. He was a force. The very best kind.
A memorial will be held at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, Missouri, on June 12, 2026, including visitation for family from 1 to 2pm, friends from 2 to 3pm, and service from 3 to 3:30pm.
