Arthur, 73, resided in the DC area since his youth. After surviving with cancer, he passed peacefully in his sleep in 2021.
Arthur was born on February 18, 1948, to Shirley and Harold Salwin in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, and went on to a obtain PhD in physical chemistry from Princeton University. Upon graduation, he worked at the Weizmann institute while living in Israel. He then returned to the United States, where he met his future wife, Nancy. They were married on July 31, 1977. In 1981 and 1983 he proudly and lovingly welcomed his two children into the world.
Art was a life-long learner and lover of nature. He had a myriad of interests and hobbies, including square dancing, bowling, recreational theater, public speaking, political history, skiing, substitute teaching, serving on the independent review boards at a local hospital, international travel and foreign language learning, visiting the national parks, founding a Hebrew conversational group at Congregation Beth El, and rooting the Washington Nationals and Capitals onto their respective championships.
A private funeral service is being held on Friday, April 9, 2021 followed by several nights of shiva call via zoom. Donations in his honor may be made to the Weizmann Institute of Science and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
