Brian Edward McCormack, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle passed away peacefully in Silver Spring, Maryland on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, at the age of 88. He lived a life full of laughter, generosity, and quiet strength.
Born in Brooklyn, New York to Charles and Elizabeth (Enright) McCormack on August 7, 1937, Brian was the eldest of four siblings. He attended high school at LaSalle Academy before going on to earn his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Manhattan College in 1960 followed by a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1970. His hard work and dedication led to a distinguished career at the Princeton University Plasma Physics Laboratory until his retirement in 2002.
Brooklyn always held a special place in Brian and his wife Eileen’s hearts, as this was where they first met, came to know each other’s families, and formed lifelong friendships. They always enjoyed meeting fellow “Brooklynites” as they travelled throughout their lives, reveling in their parish connections.
Brian and Eileen settled in Montville, New Jersey, in 1967 where they raised their family and were active members of the community. Brian was involved in all of his children’s activities, helping out in any way he could, from coaching and serving on the boards for their youth sports to chaperoning ski trips. He also served as a Eucharistic Minister and led fund raising efforts at St. Pius X Church. In his spare time, he could be found working on any number of home improvement projects around the house, and he was often the first call for family, friends and neighbors needing assistance on one of their own projects. And he was always willing to help.
His active life continued in retirement, when Brian and Eileen moved to Ford’s Colony in Williamsburg, Virginia in 2002. He served as president of Ford Colony’s Nine Hole Golf Club, volunteered with AARP to help people prepare their taxes, and worked with the home owner’s association inspecting building projects. He truly enjoyed retirement and made many new friendships. Retirement also meant more trips to the Jersey Shore, a long-time family tradition. He loved spending time at the beach with his grandchildren, teaching them to body surf and play cards. He cherished spending time with them and watching them grow up.
Brian is survived by his beloved wife Eileen of 61 years and his loving children: Tracey, Keith (Laraine), Darren (Elise Pattison), and Matthew (Antonia). He is also survived by his grandchildren Caitlin, William, Ella, and Casey McCormack. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Maureen Brandt, and his granddaughter Grace Catherine.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 8, 2026 at 10:30am at St. Pius X Church, 24 Changebridge Road, Montville, NJ 07045. Family and friends are invited to a repast immediately following the Funeral Mass.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift in Brian’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association. https://www.alz.org/
