It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Edward Bennaugh, Jr., affectionately known as Chuck, who left us on December 31, 2025. Born on September 12, 1968, to Charles E. Bennaugh, Sr. and Beatrice Bennaugh, Chuck lived a life filled with passion, love, and dedication.
A proud graduate of Ballou Senior High School, Chuck was not only a talented football player but also a deeply influential figure in the sport. Throughout his career, he served as an owner, founder, commissioner, coach, and mentor to countless teams and athletes. His lasting impact and leadership earned him induction into both the Minor League Football Hall of Fame and the ECFA Hall of Fame. Chuck’s dedication and coaching spirit were most evident with the Frederick Outlaws, his five-time championship team that truly embodied his vision, passion, and commitment. Beyond the sidelines, Chuck was also known for his devoted love of the Dallas Cowboys and the Oklahoma Sooners—a loyalty so unwavering that his family jokingly chose to forgive him for it, embracing yet another part of the character that made him unforgettable.
On January 1, 1994, Chuck married the love of his life, Nancy Tropea. Together, they built a beautiful life and were blessed with two daughters, Alexis and Jasmine Bennaugh, and the joy of their beloved granddaughter, Ivey Bennaugh. Chuck is survived by his devoted mother, Beatrice Bennaugh, and his loving sisters, Linda (Ronald), Denise (Don), and Aretha (Derek). He is also survived by his father-in-law, Frank Tropea, and his sisters-in-law, Michele (Kenny), Jo (Dan), and Angie (late Greg). He will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews—Anna, Ronjour, Dana, Kristen, Robert, Elisha, Brittany, Rashard, Katie, Kelly, Sammy, Veronica, Allie, Frank, Christian, and Darren—as well as his cherished goddaughters, Jenna, Yahirah, and Saraya. Chuck also held a special place in his heart for his bonus nieces and nephew, Tara, Eugene, Julia, Sofia, Eva, Taliyah, and Qamara. In addition, he leaves behind a host of great nieces and nephews, and countless friends who adored him. Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Charles E. Bennaugh, Sr., and his mother-in-law, Ginia Tropea.
Chuck’s legacy lives on through the love of his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will always be remembered for his kind heart, infectious smile, and the joy he brought to everyone around him. He touched many lives and will be profoundly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Capital Caring Health and/or the National Kidney Foundation, honoring Chuck’s spirit and love for others.
A memorial service to celebrate Chuck's life will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Longwood Community Center (19300 Georgia Ave, Brookeville, MD 20833) at 12 noon. All who knew him are welcome to join in honoring his memory.
