(Age 87)
Connie Weiss passed away peacefully on June 29 at her home in Silver Spring MD.
Connie is survived by her husband of nearly 67 years, David; her two daughters, Stefanie (Frank Gallagher) of Silver Spring MD, and Julie (John Shibley) of Eliot, ME; her son Neil of Greenville, SC, her grandson Jordan Silverman (Kathryn) of Laurel, MD; her niece Tal Simmons and grandniece Noa Simmons, both of Richmond, VA.
Connie was born in Boston in 1933 to Albert and Rose Biller. She grew up in Worcester MA, graduating from Classical High School where she played First Violin in the school orchestra. She went on to Radcliffe College, where she also played in the orchestra, earning a BA in English Literature. While at Radcliffe, she met David Weiss, then a student at MIT. They were married in 1954.
After several moves, the family settled in Silver Spring and joined Temple Emanuel in Kensington, where Connie volunteered in the nursery school and with the National Council of Jewish Women. She later worked as a real estate settlement specialist at a law firm, Bulman Dunie, in Bethesda. She retired in 1989.
Connie was an avid reader and an accomplished artisan at needlepoint, filling the Weiss household with many of her beautiful works. She also knitted; Dave still wears a sweater she made for him early in their marriage. Her family will remember her affection for theater, symphony, romance novels, old movies (especially Westerns), dogs, dinner parties, and cruise ships.
The funeral will take place at 10am on Friday, July 2, at Temple Emanuel, 10101 Connecticut Ave., Kensington, MD. The internment at King David Memorial Gardens in Falls Church, VA, will be private.
All are welcome for a light lunch at 11am on Saturday, July 3, in the community room at Turnberry Court in Leisure World, 3005 S. Leisure World Blvd, Silver Spring, MD.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Jewish Social Service Agency (jssa.org).
