

Diosdado Edralin Ulep, M.D., age 78, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2020. Dr. Ulep was the sixth child born in the Philippines to Emilia and Valentine Ulep. At a young age of 14, Dr. Ulep left his rural mountain province home to pursue his undergraduate and medical degrees, respectively at St. Louis College (Baguio City) and Manila Central University (Manila) on full academic scholarships. After completing medical school at 21, Dr. Ulep was recruited to Subic Bay Naval Hospital for a year before completing his internship at St. Francis Hospital in Honolulu, HI. It was there that he would meet his wife, a fellow medical intern. Drs. Ulep married in 1973, settling in Silver Spring, MD, where they would raise five children. He practiced and taught for 30 years at Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC. Serving the Northeast and Southeast communities, Dr. Ulep was certified in family and geriatric medicine, and would often make home visits to elderly and indigent patients. He and his wife loved traveling, dancing, and spending time with family, especially their children and grandchildren. He was deeply loved by family and friends.
Survived by his wife Nerita Estampador-Ulep, M.D.; sons Paul, Austin (Kate), and Stephen; daughters, Lei Ann (Gregory Gleaves) and Melissa (Christian Tynan); grandchildren Lucien, Ava Rose, Isabella, Max, Paul, and Claudia; and brother and sisters Rodolfo Ulep, Violeta Ulep Dunuan, and Norma Ulep Oliver. Predeceased in death by his parents and siblings Amante Ulep, Ferdinand Ulep, and Estela de la Cruz.
