greatest accomplishments in her life (after naming her two children Mark & Christine), she
shared overcoming alcoholism and near bankruptcy in her late 30’s, succeeding in insurance
sales in a male-dominated field, and was very proud of being the first woman in the State of
Maryland to achieve a Series 7 license. She continued through the second half of her life
building financial stability and winning top sales year after year. (She had a clothes, shoe, &
matching handbag habit to support!) She also quit smoking after 60 years!
Astrid had a playful nature she explored when building Legos on the floor with her grandsons or
taking them to amusement parks and jockeying for first down the water tube (Who had more
fun?!). She was fierce, independent, highly intelligent and equally stubborn. She could be both
critical and charming, yet won hearts with her pure honesty. Mom was difficult to like at times but
easy to love.
Liz, as she was known when younger, spoke frequently of her Institute of Notre Dame College
Preparatory High School, IND lifetime friends for providing support & structure at a difficult time
in her upbringing. Our mother was resilient, beautiful, brilliant and will be missed by her 2
children, 6 grandchildren and friends.
A Catholic Mass is being dedicated in her honor Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Our Lady of
Grace Catholic Church. Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home handled the private ceremony.
