Evelyn “Evie” Loretta Fowler entered the world on February 2, 1953, in Silver Spring, Maryland, born to Dorothy Elizabeth Folger and Arthur Francis Folger. On February 1, 2026—just one day shy of her birthday—she quietly completed her earthly journey, leaving behind a life defined by care, devotion, and a deep, abiding love for others.
Evie had a way of finding joy in simple, beautiful moments. Each year, she looked forward to her cherished trips to Ocean City, where she delighted in the beach, the boardwalk, and especially in watching people pass by. But even there, her joy was never just her own—she took the greatest pleasure in seeing her family laugh, relax, and enjoy themselves. Their happiness was always her happiness.
Caring for others was not just something Evie did; it was who she was. She had a gift for making people feel seen, valued, and special. Nowhere was this more evident than during the holidays, which she treated as sacred opportunities to gather loved ones and shower them with warmth—often expressed through her cooking. From visits to North Carolina and her beloved squash casserole to her famous cherry jello, her dishes became traditions, eagerly anticipated and lovingly remembered.
Her grandchildren carry her presence with them in countless ways. L.J. will always remember her cherry jello, a simple treat that felt like pure joy. Courtney treasures their visits to church together and the happiness Evie found in worship and fellowship. Hailey remembers her as the very definition of a grandmother—not only sweet and compassionate, but a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, and someone who genuinely wanted to know every detail of her life. Later in life, Evie was blessed with the gift of time—time spent with her youngest grandson, Noah. She embraced those moments fully, allowing him to be as silly as he pleased and often joining in herself. Noah once told his mother, “I didn’t always know why I was at grandma’s, but when I was, I forgot all about you.” In that simple honesty lived the magic of Evie’s love.
Education and service shaped much of Evelyn’s life. She was an alumna of Beltsville Adventist Elementary School and Takoma Academy, later attending Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, Tennessee, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing between 1970 and 1974. Nursing was more than a career—it was a calling. At Washington Adventist Hospital, she built an extended family, sharing life’s milestones, sorrows, and celebrations. For 42 years, she served with compassion, dedication, and quiet strength before stepping into a well-earned retirement.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy Elizabeth Folger and Arthur Francis Folger; her brother, David Arthur Folger; her son, James Truman Fowler, Jr.; her stepdaughter, Avis Rochelle Aylor; and her husband, James Truman Fowler, Sr. She leaves behind a legacy of love to be cherished by her daughters, Janelle and Joy; her son-in-law, James; her godson, Daniel; her grandchildren—Courtney, Hailey, James “L.J.”, Anthony, and Noah; her sisters-in-law Mildred, Lois, and Hattie and their spouses; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Evelyn “Evie” Fowler lived a life rooted in service, family, and love. Though she is no longer with us, the care she gave, the meals she shared, and the joy she created continue to live on in every heart she touched.
