Howard Kaplan passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was 81.
Born in Miami, Florida, Howard was a gifted violinist from a young age and loved playing his violin in recreational orchestras as an adult, including in concert at the Kennedy center. He regularly attended classical concerts throughout his life. He met his beloved wife, Barbara Beigun, at the University of Chicago, where their shared love of music and learning sparked a lifetime of devotion. They were married for nearly 60 years and raised four children together — Jeff, Eric, Brian, and Robyn.
Howard had a long and distinguished career in software engineering, working with IBM, NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, and Vitro Corporation. He was known for his thoughtful nature, quirky humor, and deep commitment to family.
He cherished his role as a father and later as a grandfather to Austin, Molly, Mark, Maya, and Liora — showering them with love, laughter, and carefully chosen gifts.
Howard will be remembered for his wisdom, warmth, and the quiet strength he brought to all who knew him.
A funeral service for Howard will be held Monday, April 28th at Rockville Cemetery at 1:30 PM, 1650 Baltimore Road, Rockville, Maryland 20851. A celebration of life will follow at 4:30 pm at Wellington Trace Community Center, 6400 Tennison Drive, Frederick, Maryland 21703.
