Judy was born on June 8, 1944, in Charleston, West Virginia, to James Thomas Metheny and Helen Pauline Metheny. She was raised in Parkersburg, West Virginia, with her siblings, Jim, Janie, Joan, and Jennifer. After graduating high school, she attended Alderson Broaddus College, majored in English and physical education, and earned a bachelor's degree.
After college, Judy began her lifelong career as a teacher, first in Prince George's County Public Schools and then in Charles County Public Schools. While working at Friendly High School, she met and fell in love with a handsome young social studies teacher named David Leon Lindley. They were married on December 19, 1970, four months after they met.
David and Judy began their lives together in Charles County, where they raised their two children, Byron (b. 1973) and Bryce (b. 1975). Judy was a devoted educator, eventually retiring from Charles County Public Schools after 27 years. After that, she worked as a tutor at Huntington Learning Center for another ten years.
For over 40 years, Judy was a dedicated member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, committed to serving her community. Among many other things, Judy helped run the youth and Vacation Bible School programs, she sang with the choir, volunteered for countless church dinners, and worked with ministries that helped underserved people in their area.
In her spare time, Judy enjoyed playing bridge, working on puzzles, watching sports, and learning new games. But her favorite thing to do was to spend time with her grandchildren, Cameron (b. 2004), Connor (b. 2009), and Elena (b. 2011). She was the most enthusiastic fan at their sporting events or during school performances.
She loved playing games with them, doing craft projects, and taking them everywhere. They were her biggest source of joy. If you ever asked her about them, she had an endless list of all the ways she loved and was proud of them.
Judy never made any "long-story-short". She enthusiastically befriended almost anyone she met anywhere she went. She was a force of nature who was larger than life. Her energy was limitless, and she did anything she set her mind to.
Family, friends, and faith in God were the most important things in Judy's life. So many people loved her because she loved them intensely. Judy is survived by her son Byron, his wife Ivonne, and their children Connor and Elena; her son Bryce, his partner Leanne, and his daughter Cameron; her sisters Joan and Jennifer (m. Glenn); her sister-in-law Annabel (m. David); and countless other family members and friends spread across the country. Judy was predeceased by her parents, her siblings Jim and Janie, and her beloved husband of 52 years, David, who passed away just a few months ago.
