Kim Fellner died on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 of progressive Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare cancer. She dedicated her life to organizing for the dignity of all people through her work within labor, human rights, and social justice organizations. Kim was a powerhouse, starting her career as a labor organizer. She worked for SEIU, the Screen Actors Guild, the National Writers Union, and Working America. One of her brightest contributions was founding and leading the National Organizers Alliance (NOA). NOA brought together organizers from social, economic, and environmental movements to network together and to ensure better benefits for their staffs. One of Kim’s lasting contributions is the lifelong coaching and mentoring of a whole generation of organizers. For women in particular, who struggled to break through, Kim was a sister, supporter, and sounding board. Kim continued to participate in activities to support democracy and justice until the day she died.
Over the past few months, Kim has written articles about living while dying, something she did with grace, humor, and great kindness. These articles were published in the Washington Post. Her most recent one, My health and my politics walk into a doctor’s office, completed days before she died, received over 1600 comments. This work, and a reunion with her NOA colleagues of 30 years, were her great joys in her final weeks.
Family, friends, and a universe of social justice colleagues will miss her greatly.
Funeral service burial private.
