Michael Curtis Waters, (“Mike”), of Silver Spring, Maryland, passed away peacefully, Saturday, November 21, 2020. Mike is survived by his loving daughter Christie Marie Waters, and his devoted son Brett Michael Waters. Mike is also survived by brothers Bobby, Phil, and Kenny Waters, and sister Kathy Parker. He is predeceased by brothers Donald, Gene, John, Leonard, and Carl Waters, and his parents Ruby & Ira Waters.
Michael was born on July 19, 1957, in Bethesda, Maryland, at Suburban hospital. Mike was the youngest son, ninth child, and the last boy born into the Waters family of ten. Mike was born an uncle and loved that he was affectionally known as “Uncle Mike” since day one. He took a lot of pride in his family and deeply loved all of his siblings, cousins, nieces & nephews, great nieces & nephews, and great great nieces & nephews! He was proud of his roots, and where he came from, and loved being part of a big family.
Mike graduated from Springbrook, High School, class of 1975. After high school he worked in construction as a roofer, with his brothers, and his nephew Donnie Waters. He married Sharon Custer in 1981, and had two children Christie & Brett. He was a loving father, and a known as the “cool Dad” by Christie & Brett’s friends.
Mike was an animal lover, affectionally known as the “dog whisperer” and nature lover. Mike had a green thumb and would grow beautiful vegetable gardens in the Summer. He grew the BEST tomatoes, I know those lucky enough to enjoy them are going to miss them.
Mike was an excellent cook, he learned his skills in the kitchen from his mom Ruby, but he really enjoyed being creative in the kitchen, and coming up with his own signature dishes. He made an excellent crab cake, and crab soup. He loved picking his crab into a pile, and then putting it on a potato roll with butter. He made delicious gumbo, grilled cheese, and breakfast.
He enjoyed spending time outdoors and being physically active. He loved crabbing and fishing, and being on the water. He loved loud music, and going to concerts, he even saw Led Zeppelin in concert. Mike loved playing, watching, and betting on sports. Some of his hobbies were shooting pool, bowling, playing and coaching softball, and he loved scratch-offs.
Mike was a kind hearted person and always had a smile on his face and a good joke to share. He was a natural comedian, and could make everyone laugh and in a good mood. He was uplifting, kind, sweet, resourceful and strong. Mike was loved by all who knew him, and will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
