Though we only met a handful of times, I am deeply saddened by the news of Morallina's sudden passing, and my heart goes out to her family.  She was always warm and welcoming every time I met her, and I held deep admiration for her. She was a strong and confident person, both kind and wise, and it always showed how fiercely she loved her children. 

My deepest condolences to Alina, Marissa, and Elliot. There are truly no words that can be said to help heal this loss.

Morallina introduced countless groups of students, policy-makers, and civil society leaders to the World Bank, answered their questions, and welcomed them with open arms. I am so deeply saddened to hear of her passing. My sincere condolences to her loved ones.

Morallina made an enormous difference in my life. While she was President of the World Bank Staff Assn, she was able to persuade management to change the employment status of hundreds of 'Long Term Consultants' to 'Regular Staff', meaning I was able to continue working, and to earn a pension when I retired. Moreover, because I gained valuable skills, the Bank has continued to employ me, many years later! I cannot stress what a difference this has meant to me; my life is so much fuller, all because of Morallina! She was a treasure and many people will miss her.

Dearest Morallina,

It seems like just yesterday we sat huddled over a bucket of mussels in Georgetown, washed down with a bucket of wine:  they called us the Gang of Four (others less kindly “the cabal”).  Reprising what we did in our pre-retiree life - strategizing to make things better, more relevant, more accessible for others - it brought us together again. 

Not that you ever needed an excuse to be active …whether you were swing-dancing your way through Glen Echo, drinking the Champagne region dry,  reminding  a World Bank President that without our staff the institution was nothing, or corralling your neighbours as their condo president  - you were the fireball of energy and tenacity wherever you landed.  How did you pack so much vitality into such a petite package?

What drove and inspired you most, however, was the love and joy of family: we remember how much you laughed about the perfect wedding you had planned that was almost washed away; of your deep pride in the young man and women your children have become; and your commitment to restore and honor the rich heritage of your family’s lands in India. 

Words cannot adequately capture how much we miss your friendship, your laughter and your  “MG energy”. But we also know that if there is a group to organise in the after-life, you’ll be front and centre, ensuring heaven is an even better place.

Morallina was my friend for 35 years. She will be dearly missed for her sincerity, caring and willingness to always take action when needed. To Alina, Marissa and Elliot, I am so very sorry for the loss of your mom.  We will all miss her dearly.

Morallina was a consummate and caring professional, fiercely devoted to those she worked with and passionate about justice.  She has died much too young when she still had so much to contribute.  She will be remembered and missed by countless colleagues and friends.

Morallina was a strong an effective leader of the Staff Association (of which I was a member for two years). She fought successfully for giving compensation to years spent as long-term consultants and other issues.  I remember her telling me that she was having a tough time getting a position at the Bank after her tenure because of her strong stands.  A wonderful, good lady!

Devastated by this. Morallina was a beacon of light and joy. I pray for her soul and may her soul rest in eternal peace.

A better sister-in-law than you couldn’t have been imagined or ordered! Your house was our house … anytime! Baki’s and my children and children-in-law were your children, and our grandchildren your grandchildren.
Some time a few decades ago we both got an epiphany that blessings were to be shared - with parents, siblings, churches and charities, needy students, relatives, etc. Thanks for all the values we held dear.
How and why did we pack so much in the last 20 years or so? HK, US, Grenada, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, India (specially the KJ Hills), et al. Now we know. 
Last Christmas Eve you knew we were waiting for you in Shillong and Sohra. Now, as Elvis Presley taught us to sing when we were young, “There’s another meeting place up there in heaven / By the side of the river of life.” Haduh kata ka por, thiah suk.

Together, we had long lunches - the last one on Dec 18. We traveled to places that became treasured memories—wandering through Reims, Venice, Paris, Rome and Pompeii, driving along the breathtaking Amalfi Coast, climbing glaciers in Alaska, and taking in the sweeping vista of Bangkok City. 

Morallina brought passion to everything she pursued and possessed a keen eye for what needed to be improved or changed. She took great care in her appearance, always perfectly manicured and immaculately dressed. Always thinking of her family. Recently, we collaborated on retiree health insurance, attended political rallies and through it all, we had fun together. 

Morallina had a rare gift for bringing people together, creating connections that sparked new friendships. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Rest in Peace, Kong Moral. You will forever be remembered for your grace, beauty and kindness. Wishing the family endless peace through this tough time.
