Myung Kun Yi

Myung Kun Yi, age 55, passed on April 20, 2026 after a six year battle with ALS. A beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, Myung’s life was defined by his generous spirit, his unwavering dedication to his loved ones, and his deep commitment to his faith.

Born on September 13, 1970 in Daejeon, South Korea to Kyung Sik and Bok Soon Yi, Myung moved to Maryland when he was less than a year old. Myung attended Eleanor Roosevelt High School, where he met his future wife, Jennifer, in tenth grade. Together, Myung and Jennifer attended the University of Pennsylvania and Georgetown Law, got married, and raised their family of four girls. In his professional career working in private equity, Myung was a cherished colleague known for his sharp mind and his skilled dealmaking.

In his personal life, Myung was known for being a great lover of playing sports, a constant seeker of great food spots to share, a guitar player and worship leader, a dedicated church leader, a generous host and grillmaster, and an enthusiastic karaoke singer, among other things. Myung was often the life of the party and could be instantly recognized by his contagious laugh. As a father, his patience, generosity, love of fun, and gentle attentiveness knew no bounds as he faithfully provided for his daughters’ every need, whether material or immaterial.

As time went on, ALS gradually took away his ability to participate in many of these beloved activities, both decreasing his mobility and increasing his daily pain and discomfort. Nevertheless, there were aspects of Myung that the disease could never take away; for instance, it could never diminish his dedication as a DC sports fan or his appreciation for good music, and he shared these things with his family and friends until the very end. Up until his final days, Myung deeply admired beauty in nature and music; he quietly inspired the people around him to live with purpose and wisdom; and he never spared an expense in celebrating the lives and accomplishments of his loved ones. Above all, despite the merciless progression of his disease, he remained constant in his love for the Lord and his devotion to his family.

Myung is predeceased by his father, Kyung Sik Yi. He is survived and dearly missed by his wife, Jennifer Yi; his daughters Madeleine Yi-Thomas (Stuart), Sophia Yi, Charissa Yi, and Daphne Yi; his mother Bok Soon Yi; his older siblings Jennifer Kim (David), Joseph Yi (Joanne), and Don Yi; his sister-in-law Tressa Wang (Brian Lease); his nieces and nephews Hannah Chang (Will), Dennis Kim (Stacy), Alexander Yi, Amanda Yi, Nikky Yi, Sierra Lease, and Savannah Lease; a grandnephew and multiple grandnieces; and many dear friends and colleagues.

Visitation will be held at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland 20904, on April 29, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the Funeral Service at the same location on April 29, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

A Committal Service will take place at Norbeck Memorial Park, 16225 Batchellors Forest Road, Olney, Maryland 20832, on April 29, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm.
