Norris L. Hansford

Norris was a native Washingtonian. He attended Giddings Elementary, McFarland Jr High, and Roosevelt Sr High, all DC public schools.

He married his devoted wife, Oretha, in May 1962. They were married for 58 years. They had five sons: Norris, Jr., Danny, Michael, Ronnie, and Curtis, and a daughter, Theresa. Norris was a dedicated husband and hardworking father.

Norris accepted Christ as his personal savior, here at Gethsemane Baptist Church. He was a faithful member, regularly attending services for many years with his wife Oretha, sister and brother-in-law Grace and John “Kid”Jackson, Sr. and many other family members.

Norris worked as a floor mechanic supervisor for close to 40 years. He was well known for his wood floor restoration skills. Norris was a cheerful man. He enjoyed fishing and welcomed everyone to join him when he went out on fishing boats. He also enjoyed visiting with family.

Norris was preceded in death by his wife Oretha and his son Norris, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory: his children Danny Hansford, Ronnie Hansford, Michael Hansford, Curtis (Tone’) Hansford, Theresa (Antonio) Bacon, Debbie (Norris, Jr.) Gaither, bonus daughter, and son Aurie and Jerry Cohen, eleven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. His sister Yvonne Hansford Borders and brother James (Dale) Hansford, favorite nieces Cassandra, Patrice (Bill), Chaye (Moshe), Azeemah (Mike), and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A visitation for Norris will be held Friday, September 6, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Gethsemane Baptist Church, 5119 4th St NW, Washington, DC 20011. A funeral will occur Friday, September 6, 2024 at 11:00 AM, 5119 4th St NW, Washington, DC 20011. A burial will occur Friday, September 6, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, Maryland 20722.
