On July 24, 2017 of Silver Spring, MD. Devoted husband of the late Louise Elmendorf; loving father of Teresa Elbin and the late Stephen Elmendorf and John Elmendorf; cherished grandfather of Gina Downey, Peyton Elmendorf, Rick Elmendorf, Nicole Elbin, Jack Elmendorf and Audrey Elmendorf; adored great-grandfather of four; brother of Royal Elmendorf and the late Arnold Elmendorf and Arlene Kelly; dear son of Roy and Lola Elmendorf. Also survived by many relatives and friends. Richard was born in Washington, DC, a graduate of Eastern High School, Naval Cadet during WWII, employed at National Bureau of Standards, National Science Foundation, and Department of Education. A gathering will be held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 15663 Norbeck Rd., Silver Spring, MD 20906 on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.; with the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven, Silver Spring, MD. Donations may be made in his memory to the Montgomery County Humane Society.
