

Rita was born in Washington, D.C. on February 17, 1927. Her parents were Frances Angela Klein and Charles Fenwick. She was later adopted by Robert Klein. In her early years, Rita lived on 24th Avenue in Northeast, Washington D.C. She attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School. She then attended St. Joseph’s College in Emmitsburg, Maryland, graduating with a degree in nutrition and a minor in art. She worked as a dietician prior to marriage and having children. Later, she worked for Meteorological and Geoastrophysical Abstracts where she performed transliteration for scientific journals.
Her greatest passion in life was her family. She had 6 surviving children, 16 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. A healthy lifestyle was important to her. She ate healthy and stayed fit throughout her entire life. She was a member of the “Y” (YMCA in Silver Spring, MD), where she attended aerobics classes, took weight training classes, and met many lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 60 years John Joseph Gough and her son Robert Francis Gough. Survivors include her six children Patrick Joseph Gough (Kathy) of Superior, CO; John Michael Gough (Peggy) of Harwood, MD; Mary Rita Sheperd (Robert) of Crofton, MD; Daria Ann Berman (Harry) of Ashton, MD; Jennifer Marie Lundeen (James) of Port Republic, MD; and Christopher Kevin Gough (Nancy) of Elkridge, MD. She is also survived by her beloved sisters-in-law Rita Emmell, Elizabeth Gough, and Peggy Nicastri (Nick).
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Camillus Church on Thursday, September 16, 2021; at 10:00 a.m. [1600 St. Camillus Dr., Silver Spring, MD 20903]. Interment will be scheduled at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
