

Samuel Harry Sislen (Buddy) passed away on March 27, 2025. Buddy served in professional staff positions for many Washington area and national Jewish associations and synagogues. For more than twenty-five years he served as the Director of International Affairs of the Jewish Community Council of Greater Washington and was recognized for his information and advocacy efforts on behalf of Jews in the former Soviet Union, Ethiopian Jewry and in support of Israel. He enjoyed a second career working in property development and management and parking management. The oldest of Oscar and Dorothy Sislen's five children, Buddy was regarded as the senior member of his extended family and he happily assumed that role. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; son, Rabbi/Hazzan David (Jennifer); and granddaughter, Kaleigh; brother, Murray; and sister, Brenda. He was pre-deceased by his sisters Miriam Gardner (the late William) and Renee Durner (Larry); also survived by brothers and sisters-in law Charles and Lois Price and Glenn (the late Micki Groper); and many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
Interment will take place at on Sunday, March 30, 11 a.m., at King David Memorial Gardens. Shiva will be observed at the family home. Memorial contributions can be made to the ALS Association or Hadassah.
