In the early morning hours of April 21, 2023, Thomas Walter Abernathy Sr. passed front his life to being a new phase of his journey with God. A native of Nashville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late George W. and Novella Johnson Abernathy. He attended Nashville Public Schools, graduating from Pearl High. Following graduation, he went to Knoxville College on a football scholarship and after one year transferred to and graduated from Fisk University with a degree in history. It was atg Fisk University in Nashville where he met his wife, formerly Oglivia Hackley. This union lasted for over 55 years adn to it two sons, Thomas Jr. and Troy, were born.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Oglivia Hackley Abernathy; two sons Dr. Thomas Abernathy, Jr (Yasmeen), Dr. Troy Abernathy (Kirstie); sister Georga A. Abernathy Jackson Davis; three grandchildren, Christian, Cole and Cora; special niece, Monica and nephew, Derek; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and special friends He will be dearly missed and loved by all.

A visitation for Thomas will be held Monday, May 1, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Oakdale Emory Church, 3425 Emory Church Road, Olney, Maryland 20832. A funeral service will occur Monday, May 1, 2023 at 11:00 AM, 3425 Emory Church Road, Olney, Maryland 20832. A committal and burial will occur Monday, May 1, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Parklawn Memorial Park, 12800 Veirs Mill Road, Rockville, Maryland 20853.
