Thomas Arthur Anderson II (known as "Tim"), age 77, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021. Tim was born March 16, 1943, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Betty Cooper Anderson and Leroy Thomas Anderson.
An avid stamp collector, Tim wrote an award-winning article about forgeries that was published in the "British Caribbean Philatelic Journal." He enjoyed photography and watching sports, particularly track, tennis, and football (both the American version and soccer). He was also a bit of an Anglophile, who appreciated everything from beautifully produced David Attenborough BBC documentaries to the less-than-beautiful comedy of Benny Hill and Monty Python. Wherever Tim went, he could be found with good book in one hand and a strong cup of coffee in the other.
He and his wife attended the Church of the Ascension in Gaithersburg, and he played catcher on the church's softball team. He was the president of G-SHARP/Youth Suspension Opportunities, Inc., a nonprofit organization that operated out of Ascension House and provided mentors and tutors to out-of-school suspended students at Gaithersburg High School. He also volunteered at G-SHARP for many years as a mentor.
Tim is survived by his wife, Una Wilson-Anderson, daughter Stacey Anderson, and sister Carole Anderson, as well as his many nephews and nieces, in-laws, and close friends.
Tim was preceded in death by his father Leroy Thomas Anderson, mother Betty Cooper Anderson, step-father Richard Turner, and son Eric Thomas Anderson.
