Udine Inez Marie DeMatteo Mika, age 91, of Silver Spring died Tuesday, Nov 1, 2016, at Holy Cross Hospital. She was born September 11, 1925 in Jeannette, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Daniel and Genevieve DeMatteo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Yolanda DeMatteo, Hilda DeMatteo, Vivian Demperio, Geraldine Brewer, and her brothers, Edmund DeMatteo and Eugene DeMatteo. As a child, Udine moved with her family to Solvay, NY. A graduate of Solvay High School, she worked for many years as the personal assistant to the sheriff of Onondaga County. In the 1970s, she came to the D.C. area and worked for various federal agencies, including the Pentagon, until she retired. A member of the Sons of Italy, she loved her family, playing golf and bridge, and traveling. She is survived by her loving husband Paul Mika, son Paul Coletta (Anne) of Flat Rock, NC, and grandchildren Nicole Coletta of Los Angeles and John Coletta of Flat Rock. She also leaves behind her sisters Virginia DeMatteo of Silver Spring and Lillian Werbeck (Arthur) of Camillus, NY, her stepchildren George Mika, Ingrid Smith, and Dagmar Mika, all of the D.C. area, and many loving nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with the visitation beginning at 10:30. In lieu of flowers, donations in Udine’s memory may be directed to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 15661 Norbeck Boulevard, Silver Spring, MD 20906.
