Wei Ming Moy was born on Oct. 7, 1948, in Ning Yuen Lee, China. He was the youngest son of Hon Toon and Yuet Chan Moy, and the younger brother of Soo Ming Moy. As a child, Wei was mischievous, clever and athletic. He loved participating in kung fu, track and other sports, and was a member of his high school ROTC.
He met his future wife, Anna, in high school, and they dated through his college years at the University of Maryland. He received a bachelor’s degree in engineering, and Wei and Anna married later that year. A few years later they started their family and had two daughters, Karen and Michele.
Family was of utmost importance to Wei. He took great pride in providing for his family and put them first throughout his life. His greatest joy, though, was being a grandfather to Jack, Tyler, and Sophie, and his mood lifted any time they walked into the room.
Wei was an active member of his church community and spent many years as a Sunday school teacher. In his free time, he loved history, learning and exploring new places. His top travel destinations were national parks, but he frequently was outvoted by his children and spent many summer vacations at the beach or amusement parks instead.
He was a well-respected engineer for the federal government until he retired in 2015.
Wei passed away surrounded by family on Dec. 19, 2018, at the age of 70. He is survived by his wife, Anna; daughters Karen Hontz (James) and Michele Moy (Felicia Haggerty); grandchildren Jack, Tyler, and Sophie Hontz; and his brother, Soo Ming Moy (Yin Moy).
