Bill was the leader of the UMCP Vets Club When he joined Phi  Tau. The Vets Club ran security for Armory registration.  Somehow, we Phi Taus acquired a couple  boxes of CP coupon books that helped me stay fed as an Associate Member spring of 1979.  Fried egg subs for a buck twenty-five as I recall. Yummy 😋

I returned from a trip to Senegal yesterday  to learn that my good friend Bill Strassberger had passed!  Needless to say I was shocked and saddened.  Bill was one of the nicest and fairest guys I know!  I met him during his time at the State Department, and attended his retirement party.

Condolences to his wife Agnes, his son James and the rest of his family.  May he rest in peace!

So sad to hear of Bill’s death.  He was a wonderful man and will be dearly missed. He took Tim and I’s wedding pictures as a gift in 1994.     He also assisted us in helping to bring our adopted daughter, Emily, home from India when he was with the INS as, I believe,  their press secretary.  We will always be so grateful for him and his support.  In addition, He was a much loved Phi Tau brother.   Tim and I’s prayers are with you both.

I am so sorry for your loss. I just heard about Bill's passing today (March 4.)
I have know Bill since 1978 when were fraternity brothers at the University of Maryland.
I last saw Bill at one of our fraternity alumni dinners and the end July 2021. It was good to see him.

My deepest condolences to the Strasseberger family.  I had the pleasure to work with Bill.  He was a fine man who I admired very much.

Sad to hear about Bill’s passing. Had the privilege of working with him years ago and will always remember his professionalism and love for his family. 


I just found out that my good friend of 27 years Bill Strassberger passed on January 31st.  What a loss.  I will always treasure his wisdom and insights. Bill was a good and decent friend.  He went so quick. What a shock.  Had I known I would have attended his funeral. 

So sorry to hear about Bill passing. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

I met Bill in the Peace Corps when we were both stationed in Njinikom. He was an impressive guy. Big, friendly. Instantly a hit with all of the Kom people who met him. Constantly dispelling the rumors that he was CIA. Although, once people knew he’d served in the military no one would believe him. 

Bill made a Yamaha motorcycle look incredibly small. 

I remember once a pregnant woman, who had been on the way to the hospital, stopped on the road near Bill’s house. The baby was coming faster than expected. Bill helped the woman into his home and got out his copy of “Where There is No Doctor.” He offered his services and was promptly ushered out of his own house by the Kom women who rushed in to help.

Bill was always willing to help anyone. That’s what came across; that’s what I remember the most. He was the real deal. A genuinely nice guy who loved people. 


Bill will be remembered and missed for as long as we all live!! 
He was a friend to all, a good man, and "He Held the Full Repository of our Youth". I have no adequate words for the legacy he has left behind.

The world has lost a "Good and Kind man".   I am so sorry for your family's loss.  Bill and I became good friends in High School when we had a couple of classes together.  Mr. Wood's Photography class was one of them.  

During that time period, Bill and I, along with Bob Stratton, Ted Weiner, and Steve Watson would hang-out together, and on the weekends, would "Cruise Bowie" in my parent's 1966 Lincoln Continental.  Or, if it was just Bill and I, we would ride around in a 1966 Triumph Spitfire sportscar or my 1943 WWII Jeep.  We loved to get out of the house and cruise around (looking for girls naturally back in those days) and listen to the radio.

I lost track of Bill after High School when I moved back to the Mid-West to work and go to school.  A few years later I relocated back to the East Coast, and a couple of jobs later when I began working for Visa U.S.A. in Virginia, and Bill for the State Department, we began to communicate with each other again through E-mail and then later Facebook.   He always made me smile when we would reminisce about High School and our "Cruising with the guys". 

 He will be missed by many.

I will always remember your sweetness and fast car when we hung out. Love you❤️

I am so very sorry and saddened for your, and our, loss. Bill was a wonderful, kind, and talented person. He was a big part of my high school days. I would sneak out of study hall and go to the photo lab where Bill taught me about developing photos and printing them, Credence Clearwater Revival playing in the background! My dad took Bill up in our private plane and Bill took all kinds of photos of the high school ( printed in the yearbook), the Bowie development and the Patuxent River.  There was an after prom party at my house and Bill and his date were there. We all had such fun! Such wonderful memories of a wonderful person. My condolences to Agnes and James and Julie and Patty and all of your families.

Our hearts are heavy with sorrow for the lost of a longtime friend and colleague. Bill was one of the very few "good guys." From Peace Corps to Friends of Cameroon to the State Department to retirement...over 30 years, he was loyal, hard working, professional, and committed to his family, country, friends, colleagues, and in his pursuit to help others.  Know that he leaves an indelible footprint of his works through the people he's touched with kindness, caring, and compassion.
