Dear Gail, Josh & Amy
As you know, I am a cousin (a son of his mother, Miriam's sister) of Bob z"l. His passing at such a young age is so sad... Our mothers (who were sisters) were brought up in difficult times in Europe (Germany, Austria- till they came to US- and my mother lived in England) and life brought our families to be distant. Yet, on the few occasions I was privileged to meet Bob's parents, I saw & felt that the family ties were very close- despite the geographical distances that kept us apart. Our mothers were very close- and seeing Bob's mother brought me such a vivid picture, in so many ways, of my mother, who passed away so many years earlier. I had always hoped to meet somewhere my cousins... yet life made us far apart & now, sadly, illness has taken Bob away. We believe that his soul lives on and his good deeds, character and his memory will be held firm/proud by his family & be a guide and a light- and even though life can take us through much hardship & sadness, somehow we must try to live on and further the good values & deeds of family members who have passed away-- May G-d (HaMakom) comfort you amongst the other mourners of Zion & Jerusalem, and may you not know sorrow anymore.

I will always remember Bob, Mr. Bodenheimer, the man who never ceased to make his friends and family laugh.  He knew the importance of laughter being the best medicine and giving that to those around him always.  I am grateful to have met and experienced memories with such a hard working and loving individual.  I remember the first time he drove Amy and I to Chuck e Cheeses and played with us on the rides.  He will always be a strong warrior who never gave up and kept that smile even through his treatments.  He will be missed immensely though we know he will be with us every day.  We love him and may he rest in peace and grace.  We love you all and let us remember him and the amazing moments we shared with him.

I will never forget the fun- loving, free spirit of Bob. And yes, I will also never forget when Bob was so caught off guard I was not addressing him as Mr. Bodenheimer because I'm just a small town girl. It's been a long haul, but I can say that I am so happy that he is at peace with God now. Now it's our time to celebrate his life and impact he had on us. I am so thankful to have gotten the privilege to see his love for the Illini, his passion for his job, and his dedication to his family, his goofy jokes, and his love for life. He will forever be missed, but will also forever be apart of us.
