

Jeannette P. Davis, 88, of Port Charlotte, FL, died Sunday, June 8, 2014, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital. Jeannette was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Harrison L. Davis; son, Gerry Davis; brothers, Richard and Roland Chaples; sister-in-law, Beverly Davis; and brothers-in-law, Roy Shaughnessy, Everett Meader, and Roger Heald. Jeannette is survived by her daughter, Linda McLeod and her husband Bruce; granddaughters, Heather Minch and her husband Jeffrey; Holly Magin and her husband, Brian; six great-grandchildren, Kimberley, Peter, Emily, Colin, Kelsey, and Ashley; sister, Lois Barton and her husband Ray; brothers Robert Chaples and his wife Jeannie, and Charlie Chaples and his wife Cecelia; and sisters-in-law Arlene Meader, Alica Heald, and Beverly Shaughnessy.
Jeannette was born in Owl’s Head, Maine, on February 28, 1926, the daughter of Wendell and Phyllis Chaples, of Rockland, Maine. She attended high school in Fairhaven, MA. She married Harrison Davis of Solon, Maine on February 7, 1945. Because of her husband’s careers, she lived in Portland, Coburn Gore, and Limestone, Maine; Montreal, Canada; and Port Charlotte.
Jeannette was an active resident of South Port Square, serving as an ambassador for several years. She supported her husband as his secretary, her children as a Sunday School teacher and Boy and Girl Scout leader, her church as an elder and Sunday School teacher, and her community as a volunteer in several positions at the Punta Gorda, FL, Habitat for Humanity chapter. Her family was very important to her, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at the Smart and Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Avenue, Skowhegan, Maine, at 10:00 AM, on June 28, 2014, with burial to follow in the Village Cemetery in Solon. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity through Smart and Edwards Funeral Home.
