

She was born on Aug. 30, 1929 in Belfast, daughter of Dr. Mervyn and Helen (Piper) Bird.
She graduated from Crosby High School in Belfast, class of 1947. Following High School she attended Oak Grove Prep School for a year. Next, she graduated from Nason College in Springvale, ME receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Merchandising and Nutrition.
She married Arthur E. Butters Jr. on Oct. 4, 1953 in Belfast.
In her senior year of high school and through college, Marilyn worked part-time for the phone company as a switchboard operator. She also worked at Perry’s Nut House in Belfast for a period of time. Following college, she worked as a dietitian at Maine Medical Center in Portland for a year and a half. She also was employed as a home service provider for C.M.P. for a year. Eventually, she ended up spending most of her life as a homemaker, caring for her husband and three children.
She was an active member of the Norridgewock Baptist Church, where she enjoyed serving on many committees over the years. She was a Brownie and 4-H leader with her daughters for a number of years.
She loved going to camp at Bayside, Maine and the boat rides to Warren Island and Marshall Cove with the whole family when they were younger. She loved going to watch the Maine Black Bears girls’ basketball games, especially when Cindy Bloldgett was playing. Marilyn loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by and will be greatly missed by, her three children: Carol Waldron and her husband, David, of Camden, James Butters of Embden, Sandra Butters of Veazie; four grandchildren: Andrew, Brian, Aaron and Sarah; four great grandchildren: Kobe, Noah, Madyson and Hunter; many Nieces and Nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband Arthur E. Butters Jr., her Mother and Father and two brothers: Gilbert and Conrad Bird.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, July 10, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Norridgewock Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 4:00 pm at the Norridgewock Baptist Church, Norridgewock, Maine. Interment will follow at the Sunset View Cemetery in Norridgewock.
