

Pauline Susie (Fitzgerald) Bowen, 93, of Canaan, passed away on Tuesday July 15, 2014 in Skowhegan, Maine.
She was born February 5, 1921 in Skowhegan, Maine, one of ten children born to Benjamin and Susie (Ames) Fitzgerald.
She married Elmer Bowen on July 11, 1943 in Brunswick, Maine.
Pauline graduated from Skowhegan High School and Augusta Genera Hospital Nursing School in the class of 1943. She became a registered nurse, working at several hospitals and was a public nurse on Isle Au Haut, Maine an island where she was a resident for 17 years. From 1962 – 1986 she was an administrator of her own boarding home (Bowen’s) in Canaan, Maine. Since her retirement she enjoyed doing craft work, flower and vegetable gardening.
She was a member of the Red Cross and also at one time served as an instructor, and she was also an active member of the Augusta General Hospital Alumni.
She is survived by her sisters; Golden Salisbury and her husband Walter, Madeline Robinson, her brother Emery Fitzgerald, two grandchildren; Corey Bowen and his wife Jennifer, Jason Bowen and his wife Susan, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Elmer Bowen, her son Carl Bowen, her siblings Walter, Violet, Mildred, Geraldine, Wilson, and Benjamin Jr., also a special Aunt Addie Chadbourne.
A funeral service will be held on Friday July 18, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine, with her burial to follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Canaan, Maine.
