Charles Edward Goodwin, 92, of Smithville, Texas passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 in Smithville after a short illness. Services for Mr. Goodwin will be held on Saturday July, 12, 2014 at 9:00 AM in the chapel of Marrs-Jones Funeral Home in Smithville with Tommy Goodwin officiating. Burial will follow with military and masonic honors at Oak Hill Cemetery in Smithville.
Charles was born on May 2, 1922 in Waco, Texas to Perry and Julia (Owen) Goodwin. He grew up in Groesbeck, Texas on a farm where his work ethic was learned at an early age.He joined the Marine Corp in Dallas, Texas in 1942 and was stationed in New Guinea . After being discharged due to illness, he married Josephine Leone and settled in Houston, Texas . Charles worked as a mechanic, carpenter, and lastly as a butcher before moving to Smithville after retirement. Mr. Goodwin loved the outdoors, spending time raising animals, hunting, and fishing. Charles was a member of Masonic Lodge 1359 and was a 32nd degree mason, and was a member of the Scottish Rite.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his beloved wife Josephine. He is survived by his son Tommy Goodwin and his wife Frances of Ben Wheeler, Tx., daughter Peggy Graham and her husband Bruce J. of Smithville, as well as grandchildren Mark Garza and his wife Branda , Aaron Goodwin and his wife Stacey, and Vivian Tremble and her husband Richard. He is also survived by great-grandchildren Cassidy and Gage Garza, Ricci, Sean, and Kristian Tremble, and Kaelyn Goodwin.
Marrs-Jones Funeral Home in Smithville is in charge of arrangements.
