Sept. 4, 1921 - June 29, 2013
Born to Wally and Demia Staggs in Rust, Michigan, Elsie was the youngest of 13 children. She was raised in Middletown, Ohio and traveled quite a bit before settling in Washington in her 30's. Elsie met her husband, Joseph (Joe) Smith and they were married over 45 years before Joe went to be with our Lord.
With the help from KOMO 4 Problem Solvers and the generous donations from viewers, Elsie was able to bury her Joe and set up final arrangements for herself. With the remaining balance of donations, Elsie was able to create a non-profit and help many others with off-setting the costs of a burial or cremation for their loved ones. The Elsie Mae Smith Fund is a legacy she leaves behind for those in need.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Smith, and her entire family.
She leaves behind her close friend, Joe Mack and his family; her brother-in-law, Ray Houck; and her Joe's nieces and families; her dear friends and neighbors, and numerous others that were touched by her warm heart and animated spirit.
Funeral Services will be held at Bauer Funeral Chapel in Snohomish, WA, 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2013.
Viewing will begin at 9a.m. with Service starting at 11a.m. Graveside burial will follow at the G.A.R. Cemetery in Snohomish.
