

Joseph F. Santaferrara, 76, of the Town of Cicero, passed away Tuesday May 7, 2013 at Upstate University Hospital. He was born in Syracuse to the late Carmine and Olivia (D’Orazio) Santaferrara formerly of Bucchianico, Italy. He served many years in the Army National Guard and he was a member of the Geddes Veterans Association. Joseph retired from Carrier Corporation after 44 years of service. As an avid sportsman, he was a trophy-winning bowler and baseball player. Joseph played on various Syracuse hardball and softball teams well into his sixties. During the summers, he resided with his family in his lakeside cottage which he built near Westport, Ontario, Canada. Joseph was predeceased by his sisters, Julia, Ann, Filomena, and brothers Carbino and James.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Joan Knickerbocker, his children, Michael, of Brooklyn, Daniel, of Cicero, Sandra (Joseph) Contino, of East Amherst and Michelle (Thomas) Sharer, of Lewiston, 5 grandchildren, Michael, Andrew, Alexandra, Ryan and Natalie, 2 sisters, Angie Williams, of Camillus and Genevieve Ortola, of Port Richie, FL, and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday May 11, 2013 at 9:30 am in Sacred Heart Church, Cicero. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse. Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 7 pm at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME, 2601 Milton Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Food Bank of CNY or the CNY SPCA.
