Salvatore H. “Blue Eyes” Cavallaro, 81, of Lakeland, passed away at home on Thursday, November 20, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Cicero, NY, he was the son of Antonio and Maria Cavallaro. Sam grew up on the North Side where he was affectionately known as Blue Eyes. He attended North High and was part of the Drum and Bugle Corp. Sam was also a Sergeant in the Korean War. On August 11, 1953 he married Shirley Simonetti and felt blessed to five children who adored him. Sam was a devoted husband, father and employee. He was employed with Deli Boy Provisions for 46 years as Vice President of Sales and he devoted his life to both. When he wasn’t playing repairman or hanging out with his family and friends, Sam loved taking rides with his buddies to the casino and horse races. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Anthony and Lewis, sister Mary Fragola, and Sam and Shirley’s son, Gary.
Salvatore is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Shirley (Simonetti) Cavallaro, children Mark (Lisa) Cavallaro of Onondaga Hill, Michael (Veronica) Cavallaro of New Jersey, Rick (Anne) Cavallaro of Baldwinsville, and Donna (Tony) Bove of Camillus; twelve grandchildren who affectionately call him “Big Cat”: Sammy (Mina), Vinnie and Gina Cavallaro; Nick (Ali), Marisa (Derek Norcross) and Dina Cavallaro; Gabrielle, Ariana, Spencer and Sophia Cavallaro; and Anthony and Carla Bove; brother Rosario (“Rocky” or “Sonny”) Cavallaro, several nieces, nephews, cousins and loyal good friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 24, 2014 at 8:15 am at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME and 9 am at Our Lady of Peace Church, Lakeland, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Belle Isle Cemetery, Camillus. Family and friends may call Sunday, November 23, 2014 from 1 to 4 pm at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME, 2601 Milton Avenue.
