Born in Fall River, son of the late Arthur E. Shea Sr. and Elsie (Keefe) Shea, he had been a longtime resident of Somerset.
A graduate of the former Msgr. James Coyle High School class of 1944, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Providence College. He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II and the Korean War.
Mr. Shea worked as a lineman for New England Telephone for thirty-five years before retiring in 1989. He was one of the founding members of the Independent Brotherhood of Telephone Workers. A member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, local 2322, Fall River he served as Steward and Chief Steward.
Active in youth baseball, he loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.He is survived by six sons, Timothy B. Shea and his wife Mary Lou of Somerset, Brendan J. Shea of Hampstead, NH, Patrick J. Shea and wife Denise, Barry M. Shea and his wife Andrea, Kevin R. Shea and his wife Vicki, Terry Shea and his wife Lynne all of Somerset; two daughters, Cathleen A. Shea of Hampstead, NH, Barbara E. Shea and her husband Douglas Stone of Brussels, Belgium, fifteen grandchildren, Devan, Michael, Meaghan, Timothy, Andrew, Matthew, Nicole, Marissa, Molly, Rachel, Brian, Michaela, Colleen, Emily, Hailey and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Daniel and Frank Shea.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 9:00AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Rose E. Sullivan, 866 County St., Somerset, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in St. Patrick’s Church, 306 South St., Somerset. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Monday from 4:00 to 8:00PM. In lieu of flowers contributions in his honor may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Framingham, MA 02241. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Somerset.
