Harry T. Powers, MD

Born in Staten Island, New York, a son of the late Edward and Ethel (Tyndale) Powers, he lived in Fall River for over 30 years before moving to Florida in the mid 1980’s. A United States Navy Veteran, he served during World War II.

Dr. Powers was an OB-GYN for over 40 years, retiring in 1986, having been a graduate of Princeton, Class of 1940 and Cornell Medical School, 1943. He was a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and American College of OB-GYN’s and a member of the American Medical Association. An avid golfer, he was a former member of the New Bedford and Newport Country Clubs and also the Fall River Country Club where he was Club Champion in 1962.

Surviving in addition to his wife: 9 children: Harry T. Powers, Jr. and his wife Catharine, Nancy Flem and her husband Per, Debby Ryan and husband Jim, Kathleen Maladowitz and husband Ken, Jane Powers, Maryellen Powers, Edward Powers and wife Kate, Dr. Robert Powers and wife Maryanne and Pamela Guinen and her companion Joseph Lopes, brother: Thomas Powers and wife Helen, 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was father of the late Suzanne Powers and brother of the late Edward Powers.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 10:00 AM in St. Thomas More Church, 386 Luther Ave. Somerset. Contributions in his honor may be made to Alzheimers Assn. of MA, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Fall River.
