Born in Somerset, a daughter of the late Joseph C. and Rose (Nazareth) Ferreira she was a longtime resident of Somerset and Fall River.
A graduate of Somerset High School, Class of 1940, she earned a nursing degree from Beth Israel School of Nursing in 1944 and attended various specialty schools for Prosthetics & Orthotics in the U.S.
A Registered Nurse at Truesdale for many years, she was also the former co-owner of the Frank D. Sylvia & Son Trucking Company and retired as a certified Prosthetic/Orthotics Registered Nurse from Schumacher Orthopedics in Fall River in 1993.
A former member of the Fall River Historical Society, the Fall River and American Philatelic Societies, RI Postcard Club, she was actively involved in the promotion of the Fall River Philatelic Society Stamp shows, the popular Collectorama Collectibles and Sports Celebrity Shows.
With a great devotion to her faith and family, she unselfishly gave to everyone who required assistance and her home was always open to the unfortunate. An avid reader, she was a dedicated Red Sox and Patriot’s fan.
Margaret leaves her dear friends and caretakers, Ed Stefanik and Sue Dionne Smith; two nieces, Ann Carothers and Rosalie Santana and nephew, William Pelland. She was the mother of the late Frank “Buddy” Sylvia, Jr. and sister of the late Joseph, George and Robert Ferreira and Mary Worsley and Annie Santana.
Due to current restrictions on public gatherings, her services will be private for immediate family only. Arrangements are in the care of Waring-Sullivan Home at Rose E. Sullivan, Somerset.
