
Roger W. Fortier Sr., age 82, of Somerset, passed away Monday, August 22, 2011 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. He was the husband of Anne Louise (Sullivan) Fortier to whom he had been married for 60 years.
Born in Fall River the son of the late Archille and Aurore (Charron) Fortier, he has been a lifelong resident of Somerset.
Mr. Fortier has been the Founder and Owner of Fortier Boats in Somerset since 1974, prior to that he was a Building Contractor having built many homes in the Pilgrim Hills section of Somerset.
Mr. Fortier was a founding member of the Home Builders Association in Fall River, a member of Sea Bee’s in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, a member of the Knights of Columbus in Swansea, a member of the South Somerset Volunteer Fire Department for many years, and a member of the Aquidneck R/C Flyers. Roger was also a member of the New Bedford Yacht Club where he served as a Board Member and as the Fleet Captain. He was also a former member of the Westport Yacht Club and New York Yacht Club.
In addition to his wife of 60 years he is survived by two children Roger W. Fortier Jr. and his wife Joan of Somerset and Luanne Scott of Seekonk; six grandchildren Caitlin and Lauren Scott and Mason, Connor, Lily and Reed Fortier; three sisters Pauline Carvalho of Fall River, Dorothy Estrella and her husband Charles of Fall River and Phyllis Fortier of Michigan and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held on Friday, August 26, 2011 at 9am from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT ROSE E. SULLIVAN 866 County St., Somerset followed by his funeral mass at 10am in St. Thomas More Church 386 Luther Ave., Somerset. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 4-7pm. Please omit flowers and kindly make donations in his honor to the American Heart Association 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Somerset.
